We all want to be successful in life and many times we associate this success with working long hours. Many of us spend 6-8 hours a day glued to computer screen, answering emails and running off to meetings. All of this can be mentally draining for anyone. After a long day of work, our only focus is to get home, eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and binge watch Master of None. Before we know it, we end up back at our desk and back to the same routine.

As busy as you think you might be, you are never too busy to accomplish the things you want to do after work, you just need some guidance. Here are a few ways you can utilize your time wisely after work.

Bring Your Day to an End – Working too much brings nothing but bad results, and it makes it impossible to have a life. If you work overtime you won’t be capable of doing much more than falling into the routine of getting in your bed after work, and getting up in the morning for work. Find a way to bring your day to an end, so you can better organize your schedule better.

Take a 30-minute Rest – Deal with stress by evaluating your day and think about everything that happened for 30-minutes. If that doesn’t work, find something productive to do once you get home in order to take your mind off it. Can’t find anything to, set your phone to “Do not disturb” in order to have some time to yourself.

Plan your next week during the weekend – Use the weekend to plan out your week. Set out 60 minutes over the weekend to plan out your schedule, whether it is picking up some kitchen essentials, going through emails, etc. Write it down and post it in a place where you can see it as a constant reminder.

Stick to Your Schedule – If you don’t have the room in your after work schedule to do something, don’t force it. There are other days in the week as long as you plan properly. There will be some last minute emergencies you will need to attend to here and there, but when you have a set written schedule those emergencies seem to happen less frequent.

Know your priorities – In order to better use your time, you need to know your priorities. Don’t abandonment important things in your life, just because something comes up unexpectedly. If you really want something, you’ll make it happen. The best way to make it happen is not to let other things get in the way. Filtering out what is most important to you can help you know where to better place your attention. TinyBuddah.com offers a few steps towards doing that.

With so much going on in our lives, it’s really hard to keep track of everything that is happening. Yet, you need to think about who and what is most important in order to be able to organize well and utilize your time after work in the best potential manner.
