Charities are always looking for new and innovative ways to gain the public’s attention for their cause. This Holiday season, The Child Mind Institute and the Doernbecher Foundation, have teamed up with, Nike and Bloomingdale’s to raise awareness with more than just a toy drive.
The Child Mind Institute teamed up with well-known ornament designer Christopher Radko, to develop stylish limited-edition handcrafted glass ornaments to add to your holiday tree. Each ornament ($40) is carefully handmade in Poland and sold exclusively at Bloomingdale’s,with all of the proceeds benefiting the Child Mind Institute. Celebrities such as Brooklyn Decker, Meryl Streep, Rachel Zoe, Cyndi Lauper, Diane von Furstenberg, Kellan Lutz, Kelly Ripa, Matt Lauer, and Michelle Smith for Milly all have joined in the efforts by designing their own stunning, limited-edition Christopher Radko ornaments.
The Doernbecher Freestyle shoe collection was created after a simple conversation. Nike’s Creative Director of Global Brand Presentations, Michael Doherty spoke to his son about different ways to raise money for the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. His son, Connor thought of having Nike create shoes and sell them to raise funds. Doherty brought in designer Marcus Tayui to tour the hospital and go over the idea Connor had. Tayui later thought of pairing the patients with Nike’s designers to create unique sneakers. Now in its ninth year, the program has raised over $5 million for the hospital, which uses the funds towards everything from clinical programs, hospital construction to providing care for uninsured children.
We hope to see more foundations follow suit like the Child Mind Institute and Doernbecher Foundation to create new and innovative ways for people to give back to their favorite charity, while still purchasing a great and stylish gift for their loved ones.
