Gents Among Men

Look Good, Live Well

Good looks may actually pay off, says study

Good looks may actually pay off, says study

Picture 015Growing up, we all have been told quotes expressing the importance of Self-confidence and inner beauty. “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” “It is what is on the inside that counts,” we have heard them all before. According to a new study by Andrew Leigh, a former Economics professor at the Australian National University, and Jeff Borland, of the University of Melbourne, looking your best may be more important than you think.  According to the study, good-looking male workers can earn 22 percent more than their plainer colleagues doing the same job.

Some people still believe good looks and intelligence are incompatible in women so a good-looking woman can’t be that productive

Contrary to their male counterparts, apparently, the “good-looks” affect does not work the same for women. Leigh stated, “Although he believed good-looking women may also be paid more, the study did not demonstrate this.”

“Beauty can be a double-edged sword for women. Some people still believe good looks and intelligence are incompatible in women so a good-looking woman can’t be that productive, but there’s no dumb-blonde syndrome affecting men’s pay, Leigh said.

If you ever needed a reason to take pride in how you dress, well here it is. Of course being handsome and dressing well will gain you access into the inner circle, but what comes out of your mouth will help secure your position.
