Founded in 1955 by Minneapolis-based military supply company Munsingwear, Original Penguin is highly known for their vintage inspired style of clothing. It should come as no surprise that the brand would release a collection influenced by old school gym attire. Properly titled “Vintage Gym” Penguin’s 2014’s holiday collection consist of 1950’s style loungewear. Half of the muted autumn toned collection looks like a few pages directly out of Take Ivy where the other half resembles modern lux.
Since the release of Todd Snyder’s vision of the iconic Champion brand, we’ve started to slowly see more brands like newcomers Tracksmith go into the archives and modernize classic sportswear. Equipped with a handful of layering options: sweater, henleys, and few varsity jackets. The Vintage Gym by Original Penguin is a closet worthy addition this Fall/Winter or on your Christmas list.
This whole collection is perfect. The vintage look of the pieces is so relevant still, I’d definitely wear the collection in its entirety.
