Monogram has been around for as long as most of us can recall. What started off as a way for Ivy League students to keep track of their laundry, now has transformed to people initialing any and everything you can imagine. I too have fallen into the monogram and customization craze of garments and goods. It is a special feeling you receive when you see your name, logo, or symbol on your favorite items. Here are a few ways you can make yourself heard without saying a word.
Dress Shirt – Monograms should be discreet. A classic American choice is having your moniker sewn onto your left sleeve like the one above done by bespoke clothiers, Heights+Kenchi, but you can always opt for a more subtle display on the tail, chest, or just below the pocket of your shirt. For added subtlety and just enough flash, you can use the same stitching as your shirt for your handle.
Cardigans and Polos – You can place your name, varsity letter or symbol on the left side of your cardigan, or take the modern route and place your initials near the waistband of your polo shirt.
Which Letter comes first?
Traditional Approach- First initial, last initial then middle initial.
Modern Approach – First, middle then last initial. Or a singular letter or full first name.
