I recently had the opportunity to experience Hendricks Gin in a very unique way. No stranger to thinking or acting outside of the box, Hendricks Gin hosted an event that was truly “eye-catching.” The Flying Cucumber Airship landed here in NY to celebrate National Cucumber Day. This is the new and ambitious venture from the spirits brand infused with cucumber, rose and 11 other botanicals. At a civilized speed of 35mph the 130-foot long, 44-foot tall the Flying Cucumber traveled to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Houston, South Florida, New Jersey, New York, Long Island, Philadelphia, Boston, Ann Arbor, Indianapolis, and Chicago to serve Hendrick’s & Tonics (which is always served with slices of cucumber rather than the perfunctory lime).
Hendrick’s National Brand Ambassador, Jim Ryan was on hand providing cocktails, hosting, informing all of the airship passengers about the brand and what makes Hendricks such a unique spirit.
“We have been continually surprised by the odd popularity of our unusual cucumber-infused gin. So taking on the challenge of air travel seemed like the next logical step.” – Jim Ryan, Hendrick’s National Brand Ambassador
I decided to throw on a pair of green summer shorts in order to compliment the event. On a sunny day you always want to be as comfortable as possible, that’s why a casual t-shirt and Jack Purcell sneakers is always the way to go. Keep a linen cardigan around in case it gets chilly at night, and don’t forget your shades for those Instagram moments.
The experience was unusually pleasurable in all ways good. As peculiar as the 130-foot long dirigible “eye in the sky” may be to the rest of the world for the Hendrick’s Gin team, this was just a normal day.
