Okay, we get it. Boat shoes are the ideal summer shoe. Hell, we’ve even talked about them. For some reason, it seems like people forget about all of the other options there are for the warm weather. Here’s a quick reminder for the next time you decide to pick up yet another pair of boat shoes.
Canvas Sneaker-
A simple white pair like Tretorn (left) or the latest Todd Snyder x SeeVees collaboration (right), are casual enough to wear with a pair of rolled chinos and chambray western shirt yet stylishly appropriate enough for that annual all white rooftop party.
Bucks-
Known in the US and UK as the Blucher, most versions of this shoe are made from genuine nubuck that’s been shaved down for a more softer handfeel, They are finished with a Ethyl Vinyl Acetate (E.V.A) bottom or goodyear welt, depending on the brand. Target (top) makes a stylish affordable option for just $40. Or, if you know you know you will wear the shit out of them, opt for a better constructed option made by Brooks Brothers (bottom). Give your feet a rest and save the hard bottoms for date night.
Espadrilles-
Picture yourself in a straw fedora, linen shirt (three buttons un-done), trousers, aviators, and these cloth-woven-bottom shoes on your feet, kicked up enjoying the sun. Don’t think you need a paid? Well, take it from a woman. We asked our stylish female editor, Courtenay, about her thoughts on the essential footwear and she had this to say:
“I love seeing a man in a pair of Ralph Lauren espadrilles. It drives me nuts!”
Yes old sport, you need a pair.
