Charles Doppelt, a German native, emigrated to America in the early 1900s. While he created and sold his own leather goods out of his store in Chicago, IL. Charles’s nephew, Jerome Harris, formed the idea of creating a small case for people to travel with while on the road. They called it the, Dopp kit, (short for Charles’s last name) and til this day has been a staple in our culture ever since. Leather goods company, Buxton® purchased the rights to the “Dopp®” name back in 1979, and is the only company to use the embroiled “DOPP” name on their bags.
