After being in the business for more than a decade, it is safe to say McKenzie Santiago is no newbie to the industry. With a knack for grooming, she started her own company, Pretty Monsters, four years ago. The line offered both men and women natural grooming products and aroma candles. With the success of Pretty Monsters, McKenzie set out to expand her brand by creating her first ALL male grooming line under the same all-natural philosophy, Brooklyn Grooming.
They Say: Brooklyn Grooming primarily focuses on using all natural ingredients like Argan, Avocado, Sesame, Hemp, Jojoba, Ku Kui Nut, and other oils the Brooklyn line consist of beard and shave oils, hair pomades and “Gentlemen’s” facial serums.
The Test: I was lucky enough to sample a few of the products and can honestly say, The Red Hook Shave Oil made shaving less of a annoying task. I enjoyed the unique smell of the Fort Greene Face Serum and did slowly recognize an improvement of my skin. Minor scars and acne cleared up a bit during my trial and my face had a healthier appearance. The vintage inspired “apothecary aesthetic” packaging reminds me of the time when grooming was simple and appreciated. Compared to other grooming lines, Brooklyn Grooming sits fair in their prices and stands tall against other competitors in the market.
The Result: Brooklyn alone is known for many things, TWO of the greatest rappers from New York, directors, actors, comedians, and the NEW Barclay’s center. Now BK can add their very own quality grooming line to the list of reasons why we should love the borough.
