We all love a great cup of coffee in the morning. Here are a few tips you should keep in mind towards making a great cup of joe at home:
Buy Fresh Beans
Buying from a local roaster (or roasting your own) is the surest way to get the absolute freshest beans.
Choose the Good Stuff
It is okay to be somewhat of a snob when it comes to purchasing coffee. You want to go with 100% pure Arabica beans. Cheap alternatives may contain Robusta beans, which offers a higher caffeine content but harsh in flavor. THX provides a wonderful option. The coffee is shade-grown at an altitude of 3,500+ feet in the highland regions of Acatenango, Fraijanes, Huehuetenango and Nuevo Oriente in Guatemala.
Grind Your Own
Over time coffee starts losing quality almost immediately upon grinding. The best-tasting brews are made from beans ground just before brewing.
Avoid Cheap Filters
Bargain-priced paper filters yield inferior coffee, according to the experts. Look for “oxygen-bleached” or “dioxin-free” paper filters.
Watch The Heat
Water that is too hot will extract compounds in the coffee that are bitter rather than pleasant. The proper brewing temperature is 200°F, or about 45 seconds off a full boil.
