Keep Your Tattoo(s) Looking New With This Balm

I recently had some ink done by a local artist. This isn’t my first time getting some inked, but it is my first time not using the recommend A&D ointment. Nothing against the old school A&D, but I couldn’t understand why now it mattered which products I use on my tattoo. I reached out the co-founder Mckenzie of Brooklyn Grooming for some insight.

How and when should this tattoo balm be applied?

Our old school tattoo balm can be applied anytime. If you’re using it on freshly tattooed ink, I’d recommend using an antibacterial product to clean the skin before applying the balm. A great over the counter suggestion is Bactine. Next use a thin layer, do not overuse this product. Tattoos are like flowers, and they need air to breathe. If you’re using this tattoo balm on existing tattoos, the same rules apply, use a thin layer to freshen up the skin.

What is wrong with just using over the counter ointments?

Most over the counter ointments contain petroleum. Petroleum-based products create a plastic-like barrier which does not heal the skin but instead seals in the moisture by suffocating your pores. It is also toxic which seems counter-intuitive when you have a new wound like a tattoo.

What separates BG tattoo balm from the rest of the pack?

We’ve been making this tattoo balm since 2007, and it’s been tried and tested on my tattoos as well as friends, family and many customers. I created this product because the recommended ointment contained petroleum jelly. I wanted something natural and plant-based. At the time there was a massive void in the market for an aftercare product made with quality ingredients.

Does this balm make the old tattoos look brand new again or is it just for new tattoos?

It keeps older ink fresh. Your tattoo will naturally fade over time but after tattoo care is critical for maintaining your ink. Our tattoo balm is excellent for any age of tattoos.
