Whether you HATE or absolutely LOVE it, coffee is the one thing everybody has tried at least once in their lives. With sales steadily increasing by 20% per year and account for nearly 8% of the 18 billion dollar U.S. coffee market one may question, if coffee is actually healthy for you? From the research we’ve gathered (and some moderation) we can honestly say, Yes and here are a few reasons why you should consume coffee:

Coffee is Packed with Antioxidants

While fruits and vegetables also have tons of antioxidants, coffee absorbs better in our bodies. According to a study done in 2005, “Americans get more of their antioxidants from coffee than any other dietary source,” says study leader Joe Vinson, Ph.D., a chemistry professor at the university.

Reduce symptoms of Parkinson’s disease with a Cup of Joe.

“Studies have shown that people who use caffeine are less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease,” says Ronald Postuma, MD, the study author. In this 2012 study, Ronald also stated, coffee may help people who already have the disease control their movements.

Keep your brain healthier for longer by drinking coffee.

According to Science Daily, researchers from the University of South Florida and the University of Miami found that people older than 65 who had higher blood levels of caffeine developed Alzheimer’s disease two to four years later than others with lower caffeine. This isn’t to say downing coffee will protect you from the illness, but with moderate consumption it can delay its onset.

Caffeine can make you a better athlete.

If you are an athlete, you may want to grab a cup of black coffee before your workout. Caffeine helps increase the number of fatty acids that runs through in the bloodstream. This flow allows the athlete’s muscles to absorb those fats and use them to as fuel. According to the New York Times, “Scientists and many athletes have known for years, of course, that a cup of coffee before a workout jolts athletic performance, especially in endurance sports like distance running and cycling.”

At the end of it all, coffee is damn good, and if you don’t approve then Beyonce has something to say about that.
